On the 19th of January 2022 the Nodal Axis changes signs, moving from Gemini/Sagittarius into Taurus/Scorpio. The lunar nodes are the two points where the Moon’s orbital path crosses the ecliptic, the Sun’s apparent yearly path on the celestial sphere.

The Moon’s Nodes are of paramount importance in the theory of Evolutionary Astrology, because even though they aren’t planetary objects, they symbolize the spiritual lessons that we have to take both collectively as humanity and personally through our natal chart. In other words they bring along a special symbolism relative to the karmic memories and habits each one of us carries (the South Node), but they also point to our path of growth (the North Node) through the elements of the sign they pass through. It is better for us -even though difficult- to leave behind the darker elements of the sign the South Node finds itself in and to embrace -if possible- the elements of the true potential of the sign the North Node is in.

The Nodes cross the zodiac with a backwards movement, thus we notice that in the previous 1,5 year they were in the Gemini/Sagittarius Axis. I don’t need to mention what took place in the last year and a half. I will just mention that Gemini/Sagittarius Axis is an Axis closely related to the learning process. Whenever the Nodes pass through these signs we have something to learn. In this case, we had to learn that it’s not unified and holistic knowledge to try and find meaning by connecting two or three dots and still thinking that we have an answer to everything. We also had to learn that identifying with our beliefs to a great extent leads us to dogmatism and that many times excessive confidence in our belief system makes us deny apparent truths before our eyes (low-end Sagittarius). On the contrary, this last year and a half it has been a time for us collectively to search for a fresher perspective on things, to be open minded and to try through curiosity to maintain rapport with others without thinking that we are experts in everything (high-end Gemini). I think that one way or another, these issues made their presence felt during this period so there’s no need for me to elaborate on this.

From the 19th January 2022 onwards the Nodal Axis shifts into Scorpio/Taurus, where it will remain for the next 18 months. This Axis is linked to material but also to emotional security. Therefore, let us wonder what are we now called to face and heal collectively in order to us to move to the next phase of our journey? Scorpio symbolizes post-traumatic stress from nightmarish events that have happened to all of us during our human experience.

It is all these intense feelings which we human beings either carry within us and deny facing or we repress them because it is too painful for us to deal with them. Feelings such as jealousy, anger, stress, fear, rage, but also the insecurity derived from mistrust, the wounds we all have together with taboo issues that aren’t easily discussed, all these belong to the Scorpionic realm. Each one of us will be called in an area of our life to get in contact with our Soul’s darkest side so as to see how vulnerable we feel and to what extent we can shed light on our vulnerabilities with absolute and disarming sincerity. Time has come in other words to bring these to the surface so as to heal them.

What is the antidote to the Scorpionic poison? The answer is the simplicity of Taurus. An earth sign with a male cow as its symbol, Taurus symbolizes ‘the instinct’ we all have as part of our nature and that with the pace of modern life we have difficulty tuning into. Think about this: An animal -contrary to a human- knows when it is time for food – because it’s hungry- and when it is time for sleep – because it’s tired- and it so does without philosophizing about it or without analyzing the psychological impact of its decision. Taurus symbolizes that wisdom may lie in simple things; it is a symbol of down to earth, practical wisdom which keeps us grounded with reality. It is a friend’s hug, a big sigh that may drive the tension of the moment away, it’s the awareness of my body and its needs. Do all these fix any problem? Possibly not, but they keep us grounded and help us be aware of the present moment so that we accept that reality is what is. This is Taurean simplicity. So, it is time for us to calm down and relax and look for a more natural approach to things, coming closer to Mother Nature and remembering how important it is to follow our heart’s voice.  The issue is can we stay still and be comfortable with silence in order for us to hear it?
